Golf Cart Batteries
Golf carts are such good fun you could be mistaken for thinking of them as toys! Like most toys nowadays, they also need a good set of golf cart batteries to keep them running well.
Surely the very last thing you want to think about when playing around of golf is whether or not your golf cart will make the distance, or if your golf cart batteries will wear out before you finish.
You’ll normally find there are a bank of batteries underneath your golf car seat (typically around 6). Essentially, there are two types of golf cart batteries as there are golf trolley batteries, maintenance-free sealed batteries, and batteries that require ongoing maintenance to keep them at their optimum level.
Maintenance Free Golf Cart Batteries:
Maintenance free batteries are essentially just that. They are deep cycle, sealed units which do not require topping up. You will also find that they don’t corrode the battery terminals like other golf cart batteries can if left unmaintained, and are much less likely to leak. Essentially all you should have to do with these golf cart batteries is give them a charge before your trip.
Maintenance Required Golf Cart Batteries:
The other type of golf cart batteries require a little extra effort to ensure they work properly. These batteries require water levels topping up on a fairly regular basis with distilled water (perhaps every 2 months) though the water levels should be checked more frequently. You run the risk of damaging your golf cart batteries if you do not monitor the levels, or allow them to drop too low. Batteries of this type can also need acid levels topping up in order to remain efficient, which brings with it the additional risk of an acid leak.
Charging Your Golf Cart Batteries:
As with all batteries, they will need a full charge to maximise their potential, and ideally you should let them run down fully before setting them on charge. I a battery has been without charge for a long time, this isn’t to say it is useless, it might need the levels topped up, and an initial charge from a non-automatic battery charger to get it going.
